Shoulder strength is extremely important in hockey as it effects performance in a number of areas including: handling body contact, shooting power, and stick handling.

The back of the shoulders or "rear deltoids" are often neglected by young athletes in the gym. Having balanced strength in the front and back of your body is key to performing well on the ice and avoiding injury. In this video, Lorne Goldenberg and Matt Nichol demonstrate an exercise that is excellent for strengthening the back of the shoulders.
